Communication Failure

Visual Flight Rules- If a/c is operating in Visual flight conditions.

The a/c should land as soon as practically possible, avoiding all the Traffic, in addition to selecting 7600 as the squack code on the Transponder and proceed to land at the nearest suitable aerodrome.

Instrument Flight Rules- If a/c is operating in Instrument Flight Conditions.

The a/c should proceed as per the last assigned clearance maintaining the last assigned altitude/Flight Level up to the point specified in the clearance and thereafter proceed as per the flight plan mentioned.

It should plan to arrive as close to the last acknowledged Expected arrival time or the Expected Arrival Time mentioned in the Flight Plan, and in no case should be later than 30 minutes of Expected Arrival Time, in addition to selecting 7600 as the squack code on the Transponder.

The procedure for Radio Telephony transmission in case of a Receiver only failure is as follows-

Assuming in contact with radio the following format is transmitted twice on the Primary frequency

  1. Calling facility
  2. A/c call sign
  3. Frequency being used
  4. Transmitting blind due Receiver Failure
  5. Position report
  6. Next estimated position report
  7. Time of next Transmission
  8. Word “OUT” at the end of Transmission, since we don’t expect an acknowledgement.

Example-

Bombay radio, this is Ind Air 120 on 8968, Transmitting blind due Receiver failure, position Nagpur 0200 FL 230, hdg090 estimating Nippad 0220, will transmit again at 0230

I say again

Bombay radio, this is Ind Air 120 on 8968, Transmitting blind due Receiver failure, position Nagpur 0200 FL 230, hdg090 estimating Nippad 0220, will transmit again at 0230 OUT

The procedure for Radio Telephony transmission in case of total Communication failure is as follows-

Assuming in contact with radio the following format is transmitted twice on the Primary frequency and twice on the Secondary frequency.

  1. Calling facility
  2. A/c call sign
  3. Frequency being used
  4. Transmitting blind
  5. Position report
  6. Next estimated position report
  7. Next frequency if intending to changing over to a new frequency
  8. Word “OUT” at the end of the Transmission

Example-

Bombay radio, this is Ind Air 120 on 8968, Transmitting blind, position Nagpur 0200 FL 230, hdg090 estimating Nippad 0220,

I say again

Bombay radio, This is Ind Air 120 on 8968, Transmitting blind, position Nagpur 0200 FL 230, hdg090 estimating Nippad 0220, changing over to 5580

On 5580 frequency:

Bombay radio, This is Ind Air 120 on 5580, Transmitting blind, position Nagpur 0200 FL 230, hdg090 estimating Nippad 0220,

I say again

Bombay radio, This is Ind Air 120 on 5580, Transmitting blind, position Nagpur 0200 FL 230, hdg090 estimating Nippad 0220, changing over to 8968 OUT.
