Definitions

LONG FINAL  – Position of the A/c when it is established on course with the Runway heading and is at least 8 N.M. from the approach end of the Runway.
FINAL  – Position of the A/c when it is established on course with the Runway heading and is less than 4 N.M. from the approach end of the Runway.
SHORT FINAL  – Position of the A/c when it is established on course with the Runway heading and is less than 1-2 N.M. from the approach end of the Runway.
“HEAVY” CATEGORY A/C  – are those A/c which have max Take Off mass of 1,36,000 kg and above.

All A/c having max Take Off mass of 1,36,000 kg and above should include word “HEAVY” in their initial Radio Telephony contact and in all the significant communications including Take Off and Landing.

“MEDIUM” CATEGORY A/C  – are those A/c which have max Take Off mass below 1,36,000 kg and above 7,000 kg.
“LIGHT” CATEGORY A/C  – are those A/c which have max Take Off mass below 7,000 kg.
Prohibited Area  – is a specified area over which the flight of the A/c is not permitted at any time under any circumstances.
Restricted Area  – is a specified area over which the flight of the A/c is restricted at specified periods.
Danger Area  – is a specified area over which the flight of the A/c is dangerous to the flight, due to the ongoing activities at specified periods.
FLIGHT DUTY TIME  – is the time at which the Crew reports for the duty at the airport till the time the flight or series of flights ends or chokes on +15 minutes, whichever is applicable.
FLIGHT TIME  – is the time at which the A/c taxies under its own power till the time it comes to rest after the end of the flight or Chokes Off – 15 minutes to Chokes On +15 minutes, whichever is applicable.

Total no. of landings that can be made by a Pilot in a day is limited to 6, which does not include landings for Technical reasons, Ferry and for the purpose of A/c retrieval after the diversion due to Technical fault etc.
